World’s Leading Downstream Oil & Gas Companies Gathered in Moscow This April to Exchange Best Practices for Successful Project Implementation and Update on the Latest Technologies in Residue Upgrading

16 - 19 April 2012, Lotte Hotel, Moscow – Refineries management, chief engineers and project managers attended the 2nd edition of The Projects Forum and the 7th Russia & CIS Bottom of the Barrel Technology Conference and Exhibition to exchange experiences and discuss main challenges in Oil & Gas downstream projects implementation in the region with independent consultants, representatives of design institutes, service providers and licensors. The agenda of this interactive forum included outlook presentations on the current and future major projects in the Russia & CIS downstream industry, practical advices on the specifics of master planning, investment management and project management tools by leading consultants and companies with vast experience in the region.
 
The opening of The Projects Forum was led by Mr. Colin Chapman, President of Euro Petroleum Consultants who focused on the key challenges and main problems in project implementation process in Russia and how they could be avoided through innovative approaches and through usage of local design institutes’ services. The keynote presentation of the event was delivered by Mr. Alexander Kilyachkov, Deputy Director of Oil & Gas Processing in Ministry of Energy of Russian Federation and highlighted the government’s plan to provide support measures package to all key Refining and Petrochemical industry segments. In his presentation Mr. Kilyachkov made a very comprehensive overview of the main Refining and Petrochemical Investment Projects implemented by the end of 2011 in Russia & CIS.

Another presentation   focused on the current situation in Russian Oil Refining and Petrochemical industry was delivered by Prof. Vladimir Kapustin, General Director of VNIPINEFT. He attracted the delegates’ attention with detailed overview of the situation on the Russian industry market in 2011 and with intriguing outlook of short run future plans of the main Russian Gas & Petrochemicals clusters. The day continued with presentations from leading consultants like WOOD McKENZIE, NEXANT, IPA GLOBAL, AT KEARNEY, ENTERPRISE CONSULTANTS INTERNATIONAL, PM EXPERT and covered all stages of project planning and implementation providing practical advice and comprehensive industry outlook.

The panel discussion format of The Projects Forum Day 2 encouraged participants and representatives of all parties involved in the main industry projects in Russia & CIS to share their visions and opinions in current market situation in the region and in particular companies’ projects. Ludmila Kopaseva, General Director of Samaraneftechimproject who was one of the main figures in the panel session provided detailed overview of main Rosneft projects. On the other hand Sergey Kuznetsov, Head of the Construction, Reconstruction, Modernization & Investment Projects Department in Naftan explained to the attendees that due to the best practices and useful ideas shared at The Projects Forum’11 NAFTAN has completely changed their system for implementing projects in a more successful way. 

Sergey Merzlyakov, Vice President, Head of Plastics & Organic Synthesis of SIBUR, Nikolay Koronatov, Chief Technologist from KINEF, Vladislav Bazhenov, Adviser to the President of BASHNEFT, Konstantin Stezhko, Head of Refining & Petrochemicals Department of SLAVNEFT, Ildar Taishev, Head of Development & Modernization Department of KAZANORGSINTEZ, Alexander Orlov, Head of Project Development of OMSK REFINEFY – GAZPROMNEFT - all gave comprehensive overviews of their companies current and future plans  and discussed the challenges they are facing together with their partners from Foster Wheeler, Axens, UOP, CLG and Shell Global Solutions.

Alongside the two events DuPONT has held a Sustainable Solutions Seminar, which revealed the some of the latest developments of DuPont STRATCO (R) Sulphuric Acid Technology and the new addition to the DuPont Clean Technologies Family - MECS Sulphur Technologies. 

After their seminar DuPONT hosted the Welcome Cocktail for the 7th Russia & CIS Bottom of the Barrel Technology Conference and Exhibition which was held in conjunction with the Projects Forum during the next 2 days.

The traditionally strong technical programme content of the 7th Russia & CIS BBTC was focused on the latest developments in Thermal Processes Updates and Gasification, Treatment & Recovery presented by Foster Wheeler, Bechtel, ExxonMobil Research & Engineering, etc. 

Day One of the conference has started with an overview by Mr Colin Chapman, President of EPC about the most suitable bottom of the barrel technologies for the Russian market and continued with the presentation of academic Salambek Khadzhiev well-known as an ex-Vice President of LUKOIL and current General Director of the consulting company IPS.

The second day was focused on Hydroprocessing Technologies and FCC catalysts & technologies where UOP, KBR, Axens, Intercat, Mogas, Chevron Lummus Global and Criterion Catalysts & Technologies etc. presented the latest inventions and proven technologies and their applications and advantages.
The delegates and speakers had the pleasure to continue their networking during the Gala cocktail sponsored by Zimmerman & Jansen, which was held in Les Menus – the 3 star Michelin restaurant of Lotte Hotel.

This high-level event was organised by Euro Petroleum Consultants [EPC] – an independent organisation providing technical services to oil, gas and petrochemicals companies as well specialised oil and gas conferences and training seminars.
EPC holds the The Projects Forum and Russian & CIS BBTC annually.  EPC is currently preparing their largest annual event in September - Moscow Refining, Gas and Petrochemicals Week, which incorporates three technology events – the popular IGTC, RPTC and RRTC.
